First-half

10 out of 10 for high flying Mens 3’s

Slough 3’s continued their excellent season in style as they met lowly Abingdon looking to record their 10th successive win to keep their 100% record intact. The weather cooled matters down significantly as Abingdon’s home pitch at Tilsley Park succumbed to driving rain and hail.

Slough stormed into the match, clearly the more alert team and within a minute of the start had forced a short-corner which Rav Laly slipped across to Surjit Sandhu who fired home for a very early lead.  Slough attacked superbly down the right flank and young Arron Thind had the Abingdon attack in pieces as he continually beat them and put several excellent passes into the danger zone. Slough’s intent was clear and they very quickly took a strangle hood on the game as Papu Atwal, Rav Laly and Parm Sandhu quickly added a goal a piece to put Slough 4-0 ahead within 15 mins of the start.

Abingdon fought back but were clearly not going to get anything out of this game. As the half continued, Slough forced further short-corners and were unfortunate not to be further ahead.  However the team stayed disciplined and kept to their formation well – it was simply a matter of when the next goals went in and how many.

Their continued positive attitude provided further opportunities and Rav Laly had his excellent shot deflected in by Arron Thind for Slough’s 5th goal.  Arron was then the provider as he beat three defenders and put an excellent ball on the penalty spot where Papu Atwal’s well timed run allowed him to coolly slot the ball home. Surjit Sandhu grabbed his second and could easily have had a hat-trick as his next shot hit the post. Slough went into half-time 7-0 ahead.

Second-half

Slough did not relax in the second half and continued their attacking play.

In midfield and defence, the very able Sukhdeep Panesar and Paps Sandhu were in full control and Rav Laly produced some supreme passes to rip apart the Abindon defensive line-up. Parm Sandhu intercepted Abingdon’s passes in midfield and Slough simply grew stronger as the match progressed.  Now attacking at will, Slough went close when Googs Nagra drove the ball in off the left wing. Mo Daggar was also working well down the left and it was through one of his incisive runs that the ball was played towards goal. Surjit Sandhu nicked in just ahead of the keeper and was able to complete the move with another well taken goal to notch up his 3rd hat-trick of the season. Sukhdeep Panaesar had been unfortunate not to have scored more goals but took his opportunities in the second half well to score twice short-corners, flicking both times high into the net for his brace. Papu Atwal continued his excellent game and completed the scoring from a flowing move down the right wing and recorded his hat-trick too to put Slough 11 – 0 up.

Slough’s final game before the Christmas break is at home next Saturday at 2:00pm – it should be a tougher match as opponents Boyne Hill are in the top 4 in the league.
