Not quite the normal fireworks but Slough march on with win number 7

Slough 3’s looked to their game against lowly placed Gerrards Cross with their normal confidence although their preparations for the game were disrupted with their goalkeeper having to call off ill late on Saturday morning, their normal centre-forward, Sukhi Panesar missing from the action and top goalscorer Surjit Sandhu playing with a tight hamstring.  Striking partner Arron Thind volunteered to go in goal which left Slough deprived of their key striking options.

Slough were well below par as they played with their makeshift formation. Gerrards Cross were also a tougher test than Slough had envisaged. Slough’s defence for once was their undoing with both defenders going AWOL on too many occasions and many of Slough’s players throwing away possession wastefully.  It was from a Slough left wing attack when Slough played the ball suicidally across the pitch and as it was intercepted, Gerrards Cross’ attack found the complete Slough 25 yard area completely clear of defenders and were able to smash the ball home past the temporary Slough keeper.  Slough did make continued efforts to attack and made many opportunities which their forwards wasted.

It was a few minutes before the first half when Slough, searching for an equaliser, won a short corner. Rav Laly received and switched left to Surjit Sandhu who struck well but just wide to the right of goal. Googs Nagra running onto the far post was on hand to deflect the ball in to even the scores as the teams went into the half time break.

Second-half

Slough started the second half in better shape having gone through a severe half time team talk. Their continued persistence however saw many more wasted opportunities and the Gerrards Cross attacks were looking more dangerous.

The game was won through another Slough short-corner goal with Surjit Sandhu pushing out to Rav Laly who cleverly dribbled past the No. 1 runner and pushed the ball into the left corner.  Surjit however was on hand to steal the goal with the slightest of deflections.  Slough fought hard to prevent any further goals with Arron Thind in particular making a couple of crucial saves.

Man of the match went to captain, Hermeet Najjhur who, having been desserted by his fellow defenders on so many occasions, put in several match saving tackles. Slough would likely have been looking at their first loss of the season were it not for Hermeet and Arron’s saves.

Despite their off-beat performance, Slough can still boast a 100% record with 7 wins out of 7 with this weekends game being a lesson learnt without any damage done.  Hopefully they will learn from this and come back stronger and in better shape for the local derby against Windsor 2’s on 17th Nov.
