Solid Performance

The 4ths knew that Camberley was going to be tough, so a strategy of playing the strongest team possible in the 1st half was adopted. With Amrit’s extra-ordinarily sad knowledge of the opposition’s team formation, a game plan was formed. Please don’t ask me to re-cite it as I was asleep.

It was indeed a very hard fought game. With Gurdharsan and Binny combining exceptionally well down the right side, Slough pressed Camberley back, preventing them from coming forward. The evergreen Bhachu and the return of king pin Kenny, ensured that their forwards were denied any space or time. Bhachu even had time to pick on a 70 year old (shame!). Manpreet and Herpreet had a quiet time on the left hand side, with the game going through the centre and right.

Kenny and Bhachu took turns to see how high each could hit a ball (Kenny obviously getting his golf out of his system, Bhachu was just having fun).

With Sardara and Irfaan holding the middle steady, Gian was able to break the deadlock, with a well taken shot from a loose ball. Raj come on late in the half (punished for turning up late and missing the team talk – Personally I think he got off lightly, 3 games for the 3rds; 4 for the 2nds or 5 for the 1st would be more fitting) to join the goalscorers.

In a goal mouth scramble, Sardara flicked in the third from close range (even though it did come of Raj’s stick, he’s still not having it, remember he’s being punished).

Camberley’s Terry Duffy pulled a well taken goal back just before the interval.

Second-half

The second half showed a host of changes, with Sukhi, Dev, Rajan, Hanish, Gagan and Navneet all seeing action. I not sure that was in the master plan at the start of the game (but then I was asleep, so what do I know). A particularly hard, bone crunching, stick breaking, jaw shaking winning tackle by Dev was much appreciated by the partisan support. The high number of changes un-settled Slough’s smooth passing and flowing game as they struggled to get to grip on the game. Sukhi provided a creative role in the centre of the park, with Raj and Sardara reverting back to a more defensive role.

Fortunately in a finely balanced second half, Bhachu converted a penalty flick to extend Slough’s lead and provide a much needed cushion. Camberley’s Terry Duffy pulled a second goal back to provide a tense end to a very tough game.

Camberley paid tribute to Slough, saying that they did not expect such a hard game and how impressed they were with the passing from the youngsters.

However, this game was one for the oldies, with all the scorers  being one of the “Uncles”

Man of the Match was Kierran for two excellent saves (or the youngsters can’t spell Sardara, it’s no wonder the under 18s haven’t been given the vote).
