Win number 8 – 100% record continues

Slough 3’s faced Windsor 2’s on Saturday, league leaders versus their local rivals who are shoring up the table at present.

Slough were almost back to full strength with their keeper having recovered and youngsters Amraj and Arron back in the action.  It was clear from the early exchanges that Slough meant business and it was only 5 mins into the game when they took the lead with Harjit Sandhu running through and placing an excellent shot into the corner well out of the keeper’s reach. This was quickly followed by goal number 2, Slough were awarded a free hit just outside the area and Sukhi Panesar stepped up to cross the ball into the danger zone in front of the keeper and Apinder Teja ran on and jabbed to deflect the ball into the net.  Slough were coasting and it was simply a matter of how many they would win by. However, their defence were in complacent mood again and almost let Windsor in as their big hitting defender got the ball through to their attack men on several occasions.

However Slough too continued with their relentless forays into the Windsor area and were duly rewarded as Rav Laly passed the ball in and H. Atwal coolly slotted the ball home from close range to make it 3-0 to Slough. On their next attack, Rav Laly became was the fourth Slough scorer as he chose not to pass but struck an accurate strong shot into the corner of the Windsor goal.

As Slough persisted with their attacking hockey, young Amraj cleverly beat three Windsor defenders to pass the ball across the face of goal and Slough top scorer, Surjit Sandhu was on hand to take a simple opportunity.  Surjit could have grabbed two more but on both occasions Windsor’s keeper managed to get a glove to the ball and kept the ball out.  It was through good combination play that H.Atwal (Papu) finished the first half with a great goal to give Slough a 6-0 half time lead.

Second-half

Slough, despite a lively half time team talk, took the foot off the pedal and Windsor grabbed an early goal in the second half. Slough responded with young Amraj taking his opportunity to get on the score sheet from a short corner. Windsor again attacked to find Slough’s defence AWOL and scored a second. Slough hit back with two further goals through bros Harjit and Surjit Sandhu with the match ending with a 9-2 win for Slough.

Slough’s youngsters were unlucky not to get on the score sheet more often as they made many excellent runs and shot wide on several occasion. However their performance was pleasing and will no doubt contribute strongly to Slough season as they pick up more experience. Goalkeeper John deserves a special mention alongside Captain Naj who both defended valiantly and kept Windsor attackers down to just the 2 goals.

Slough can be delighted with their first half performance and will want to quickly forget their second half.  However at 6-0 up they may be forgiven for coasting a little although that is unlikely to b their approach to their next game against a stronger Meadhurst team at 10:30am on 24th Nov 2007.
